Amadou, a fifteen year old boy, and his brother Seydou are living through slavery in the Ivory Coast. They are working for bosses to make chocolate that they don't even get paid for! They spend every day with little food and try their best to stay alive. They are hopeless until Khadija, the first girl who's ever come to camp, arrives. Amadou realizes that she is a little wild. When Seydou gets hurt badly, Khadija and Seydou make plans to run away. Will they succeed?
I recommend this book to 5th graders and up.
